Type Away Bombs, Ice Blocks, and Sharks

If your child loves playing games on the Internet, why not have them play something fun and educational? Here are three games that kids will find entertaining, while improving their typing skills without realizing it.

By typing words or letters that come within range, your child can defeat the bad guys, defuse bombs, stop oncoming sharks and ice blocks, and more. The aesthetics range from rudimentary to near-realistic with varying levels of complexity. There’s sure to be one that fits every child (or adult, to be honest).

Maximum TypingMaximum Typing
This one is sponsored by Pepsi, but the advertising isn’t the kind that’s in your face. You play the role of an agile martial artist (think a young Chuck Norris, but with less hair). The ice blocks that come hurling toward you have letters on them. Type the letter on the block and the virtual you goes into action, blurry style, breaking the blocks with hands, feet, and knees.

Alpha AttackAlpha Attack
Missiles drop from the sky and you have to destroy them before they damage the city below. As with the ice blocks, these too have letters on them that you must type in to prevent them from reaching the ground. Single letters also drop, which will eventually add up to the words “life” and “bomb”. This is good because it means you’ll get an extra life and bomb your way out of times where you find yourself getting overwhelmed with too many targets.

Fowl Words 2Fowl Eggs 2
You’re not saving anyone in this feathered version of typing tactics, but you are trying to keep the eggs from falling off the end of the conveyor belt. These eggs have letters on them. In some levels of the game the letters spell a word that you — you guessed it — have to type in correctly to make them disappear. Other levels of the game have you unscrambling the word in your head then type the correct answer. So you actually have to think on this one, but it’s still a lot of fun.

Other games are: Qwerty Warriors, TyperShark, Axis of Evil (it sounds scarier than it is), Barracuda, TypingMasterBubbles, and FreeTypingGame.net.

Hehehe it looks like we’re not going to get much work done this coming week

Yeah, I like games like these: easy to understand, but also educational for kids (okay, I guess I learn something as well). ;)
