PEW Internet Project Survey Results

The Pew Internet Project conducted a survey late last year. It brought to light some interesting comments from the respondents. For example:
…roughly 66 percent predicted that “at least one devastating attack will occur in the next 10 years on the networked information infrastructure or the country’s power grid.â€
I have to say I agree with this. It may sound far-fetched to some, but those might be the same people that would not have imagined the 9/11 tragedy, too.
Over half of the respondents agreed there would be more government surveillance as a result of new technologies being integrated into cars, phones, clothing, etc. The majority of them also agreed that as the Internet becomes more entangled in our lives that telecommuting and home-schooling will grow, which will cause leisure time to diminish and family dynamics to undergo changes.
Something tells me that the changes to family dynamics may not be a good thing, at least to begin with. I mean, in my opinion the family structure today is already unstable even without the influence from the Internet. I am hopeful, however, that as society sees these changes that it will serve as a wake-up call and start families to thinking about building a stronger home environment.
And this is an interesting comment included in the report:
“The dissemination of information will increasingly become the dissemination of drivel. As more and more ‘data’ is posted on the Internet, there will be increasingly less ‘information.’â€
Have you heard the saying, “There’s 500 TV channels and nothing’s on! Such is the life of the Web.
