Are you at risk? Take the ID Theft Quiz

This is pretty cool. The people who brought you the 2005 Identity Fraud Survey Report also offer an online quiz to help you assess your vulnerability to identity theft. It doesn’t take long at all and even gave me pause to consider how I might improve my procedures at home.

More tips to help you stay in control of your financial records:

  • Choose to receive your bank or credit card statements online instead of getting them in the mail.
  • Shred your statements once you’re done with them or lock them up in a secure place if you must keep them.
  • Drop your mail payments or other sensitive information in secure mailboxes like at the post office.
  • Setup to be notified via e-mail from your financial institution. This could be very important in spotting when your funds are getting low or when a transaction has been made without your knowledge.
  • And as I’ve said before, get into the habit of getting a credit report every year.
