FWW Spotlight #1

Today begins a new series for Family WebWatch Blog: The FWW Spotlight. I’ll highlight sites, products, or services meant for online protection, increased productivity, family entertainment, and whatever else comes to mind that I find useful enough to pass along.

Kephyr: This site has a few offerings, but I want to focus on their file database. If you’ve ever wondered what those files are that startup in the background of your computer, then this can help. It currently has 13,400+ files in its database. So if you’re curious to know if a file should really be running on your computer, then check this one out.

Plaxo: I use this everyday. I have over 3,300 contacts in my Outlook database and I would literally pass out if I ever lost them. Storing them online with Plaxo serves as a back, but it also synchronizes those contacts between my home and office computers. It does the same thing for calendar events, tasks and notes. And it also helps your contact information to be current for other Plaxo users (if you know them already) and vice versa. It has a paid version, but the free one is just fine for me.

Common Sense Media: What a great tool to add to the parent toolbox. This site covers TV and movie reviews, parenting tips, and more of what a family needs to be aware of.
