Faux Paw the Techno Cat Has Arrived

The Internet Keep Safe Coalitionsm group teaches the basics of Internet safety to both parents and children. Their mascot is (wait for it…) a cat named Faux Paw the Techno Cat. To help teach Internet safety, Faux Paw is joined by friends Cowboy Cursor, and Happy Fluffy Kitty-face (no really, I’m not making that up!).

Personally, I think this is a great idea. It introduces yound kids to the fundamentals of safe online behavior, while providing parents the opportunity to share the experience with their kid and maybe even learn something in the process, too (okay, maybe learn a lot of something :) ).

Taking a snippet from the site, Faux Paw teaches these three basics about online safety:

  1. KEEP your personal information protected: never give anyone online your real name, address, phone number, the name of your school, or picture of yourself.
  2. DON’T MEET anyone in person you’ve met online.
  3. TELL a parent or trusted adult if you see or receive anything on the computer that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Among downloadable worksheets for both parents and kids, there are wallpapers and screensavers to keep these buddies top of mind while on the computer.

So hop on over to iKeepSafe to have fun and learn more now!

I guess the way into a kid’s mind is through animated characters. :)

Yes, they do have a way of capturing a kid’s attention, don’t they? Hey, anything that will do that for Internet safety, gets high marks in my book. ;)
