<img src="http://www.familywebwatch.com/wp-images/tourmoviethumb2.jpg" alt="Getting Inside The Human Body With Visible Body" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; background-color: #ffffff; border="0" />It simply amazes me to see the kinds of wonderful tools you can find on the Web these days. They just keep getting better and better. Visible Body is one such site that I think kids of all ages, in school or not, can benefit from.

This site offers you numerous choices for seeing all kinds of illustrations related to human anatomy. This is much akin to the old encyclopedias I had as a kid, but better. I think it’s perfect for kids in particular who want to use it for their science class studies.

It provides you with interactive 3D models and dynamic search capabilities. By using the controls, you can rotate or zoom in on particular areas of interest while adding or removing layers of body systems to get a better idea of how we’re all put together.

The site covers the following systems in the body:

Muscular

Digestive

Circulatory

Respiratory

Urinary

Nervous

Skeletal

I highly recommend this site for bookmarking. It’s free and is so useful.

I’ve been collecting another batch for this week’s spotlight.

It turns out that my recent post about online coloring pages caught the eye of Charlene, someone who specializes in that category. Printables For Kids says it all, but if I left it at that, this would be too short of a post. This blog is a collection of things meant for downloading and printing for when your kid has those “I’m bored” moments. From word searches to coloring, there’s bound to be something here that your kid will enjoy. A great summertime activity resource!

Yes! I found another blog about Internet safety. We are the few, the proud! Typer Tappers deals with that topic and more, like technology and website design, for example. Check it out for a few tips.

And finally, there’s Organized Home. This resource has so many things a family can do to: de-clutter the home, organize the morning so that it runs smoothly, getting kids to do their chores, and more. If you’re the tangible type, you’ll love the gallery of printable documents designed to organize your day. You’ll find printable calendars, docs for meals and menus, family and school items. The list goes on and on. Be sure to visit!

Do you have a site or blog that you’d like to suggest to be placed in the spotlight? What I look for are things that increase productivity, promote education, family activities and entertainment, and whatever strikes me as useful. Drop me a comment and let me know what you’d like to see on my next edition.

This edition of FWW Spotlight focuses on summer reading for kids. Sure, they’ll want to surf the Web to play games, or IM with their friends. But there’s no substitute for reading a good book to make sure their brain’s are in working order by summer’s end.

One place I highly recommend is CommonSense Media. You may remember them from my first spotlight, but this time I couldn’t resist digging a little deeper to highlight their book reviews. You can sort on age appropriateness, overall rating, and other criteria. Their list of books has a rating system so you can quickly identify what’s good and what’s not so good about a book. It even provides reader comments to read or for you to submit your own.

And of course, there’s Amazon with their collection of books for kids. And don’t forget, the last chapter of Harry Potter is coming out in July, so you’ll want to pre-order that one.

Last, but not least, there’s Reading Rockets. A site geared more toward parents with younger readers, you can find book suggestions, tips on getting your child excited about reading, how to even teach your child to read. This one really is worth bookmarking.

Today begins a new series for Family WebWatch Blog: The FWW Spotlight. I’ll highlight sites, products, or services meant for online protection, increased productivity, family entertainment, and whatever else comes to mind that I find useful enough to pass along.

Kephyr: This site has a few offerings, but I want to focus on their file database. If you’ve ever wondered what those files are that startup in the background of your computer, then this can help. It currently has 13,400+ files in its database. So if you’re curious to know if a file should really be running on your computer, then check this one out.

Plaxo: I use this everyday. I have over 3,300 contacts in my Outlook database and I would literally pass out if I ever lost them. Storing them online with Plaxo serves as a back, but it also synchronizes those contacts between my home and office computers. It does the same thing for calendar events, tasks and notes. And it also helps your contact information to be current for other Plaxo users (if you know them already) and vice versa. It has a paid version, but the free one is just fine for me.

Common Sense Media: What a great tool to add to the parent toolbox. This site covers TV and movie reviews, parenting tips, and more of what a family needs to be aware of.
