I want to take a moment to encourage you to branch out and get to know other blogs that might match your interests. There’s something called FeedaPalooza that’s designed to do just that.

The man behind the concept of FeedaPalooza is Aaron Abber, an online marketing whiz who I’ve been getting to know. He came up with this promotion based on RSS Appreciation Day that took place May 1 (yeah, I didn’t know about that day either), but this promotion runs until May 15. It’s meant to encourage people to get to know other blogs and have them subscribe to their RSS feeds, like mine right here.

So in addition to broadening your collection of online topics, you’ll also get a wide offering of freebies like Domain Secrets Revealed, Adsense Income Blueprint, and Beat Cancer Now, and many more.

It’s good to get out a little and with Summer coming up, visiting a good blog is just like reading a good book to spend your time. If you’re a new visitor to Family WebWatch, I welcome you as a regular subscriber, too.

A blogging buddy of mine, Garry Conn, is running a contest over at his blog. This guy is an endless resource for blogging tips. And has a lot, and I mean A LOT of blogs he runs all of which make him money.

How do I enter the contest?
Easy. Just put a link to his blog on your’s using a special referral code. The code can be anything you want. He’ll tally up the number of readers you send him. The one with the most readers sent wins and gets to have their most recent blog posts syndicated on his blog for a month.

There’s also a chance to win some money, but to find out more, you’ll need to read the details over at his blog. Tell him Ken sent ya!

I don’t get tagged all that often, but it’s definitely a first to be tagged by two different people for the same meme: 8 Random Facts About Me. Jeanne of Writer’s Notes tagged me on this blog, and Aaron of Aaron Cook dot Com tagged me on my other blog. Since I’ve already done one iteration of this on the other one, I thought I’d make a response on this one.

The rules?

Post these rules before you give you the facts.

List eight (8) random facts about yourself.

At the end of your post, choose (tag) eight people and list their names (linking to them).

Leave them a comment on their blog letting them know they’ve been tagged!

So here goes!

Besides blogging, my other hobby is baking. While I do breads, I mostly make sweet stuff like cakes, cookies, and brownies. Here’s a sample of my work.

I visualize the week from right to left, starting with Sunday. Didn’t think much of that until I saw one of those news magazine shows on TV that described people who think graphically. One of them said she did the same thing as I did with the week. They went on to say they described tastes in graphic form. Hmm, not sure if I do that or not. Guess I’ll have to bake something for experimental purposes and let you know.

I love the TV show Heroes. I can’t wait until next season starts up.

The Christmas season is my favorite time of year. Actually, the excitement starts around October, not because stores started decorating in September, but because my kids are making things at school for Halloween. That tells me that we’re definitely on the path to the end-of-year festivities.

I’d still have to say that National Treasure is my favorite movie yet. It’s a good story, it was clean, it was a true good vs. evil sort of story. Proves my theory that a movie can do well without resorting to foul language, violence, sex, or gore.

I’m a Cub Scout leader. It’ll be my second term this Fall.

I snack way too much. And when I do, it’s usually the wrong thing to snack on.

And last, but by no means least, I’m married to my best friend. She’s the best thing that ever happened to me.

Now, I know I’m supposed to tag people with this, but honestly, I figure this tag has made it to most of the people I know. So I’ll open it up to anyone who wants to be tagged.

UPDATE: I’m having second thoughts about this. I normally don’t go to such extremes, but due to the absolute lack of response from the people linked to on this post, and my rethinking the whole viral link booster thing, I’m going to remove that portion of this post.

I’ve seen this making the rounds from blog to blog this past month. I finally decided to join in to see if readership might increase.

Instructions:

1.) Copy and paste the matrix of “ViralTags” below courtesy of Founders Cafe (to support Jimmy’s quest of launching his own Internet Startup with a shoestring budget, please consider subscribing to his Full RSS Feed to see his triumphs and struggles in real time).

2.) Substitute the Host Tag and one of the “Viral Tags” in the matrix with your anchor text of choice with your blog’s URL. Please keep anchor text to a max of 3 words to keep the matrix size manageable.

3.) When you get a ping back from someone that has your link in one of their “Viral Tags”, practice good karma by copying his/her Host Tag’s anchor text (automatically the associated link will also be copied) and paste it over one of your “Viral Tags” below.

4.) Encourage and invite your readers to do the same and soon this can grow virally.

Host Tag: Web Safety

(snipped links)

Important: Once I get a ping back from you (I promise to do the best I can), I will add your anchor text and the associated link you designate as “Host Tag” here, replacing one of the “ViralTags” from the matrix above. As more and more bloggers copy and paste this matrix, the more backlinks you will have with your anchor text. If everybody who copy and paste from your blog does the same, pretty soon this will spread and go viral. So, the sooner you participate, the more links with anchor text you will receive.

Excellent Blog…’Product Reviews’ section provides unbiased information about different products without any sort of Push-Sale, which is itself a very rare practice. Extremely sensitive issues…where it is difficult to stay within the line of control…Contents are mostly narrative and convincing, which shows the blogger’s concern for the society as a whole. My overall impression is that it is a serious attempt to develop a gross social awareness regarding the dangers we may face on the Internet…

And my score:

You may have noticed the poll to the right. I made it using Quibblo. It was very easy to do, and if you’re a blogger, then you should consider using it on your blog from time to time.

You have a choice to make a poll, survey, or quiz. Customize the colors to suit your needs. You can embed it in your blog or site, or if you’d prefer, provide a link for your readers to go to Quibblo directly to give you the feedback. You can even make it publicly available for a larger audience.

Obviously, my intent is to find out more about what you like seeing here, but there are literally limitless uses.

Taking a sidestep from the usual fare here, I wanted to write about the recently released PayPerPost Direct service, a word of mouth marketing initiative. You’ve no doubt heard of PayPerPost before as they’ve been around a while. They don’t seem to be short on opportunities for bloggers. But their offerings have definitely increased with this new direct service making it easier to make money on your blog.

Before PPP Direct, bloggers had to seek the opportunities made on the PPP web site. Now, the actual advertiser can make a request to a blogger on their own blog.

What’s more, you can set the amount you want to get paid for a review. Naturally, you want to be fair about it, so if you want offers from advertisers, the fact that they’ve come knocking on your front door doesn’t change the fact that there are tons of other blogs out there that will do things cheaper. So keep writing quality content and do it frequently to justify your price.

While comparing PPP Direct to other like services, the thing that sets them apart is the fee structure they have in place. Some places like ReviewMe (which I still have not found a worthwhile opportunity to take) charge a hefty markup, sometimes even 100%. I’m all for making a buck, but let’s be fair, shall we?

PayPerPost Direct does seem to be fair. By cutting out the middleman, they only charge a 10% fee for your transaction, but only half that goes to credit card transaction fees. So with this service, you get to keep more of what you earn.

Why not just post your email on your blog for people to contact you for a review? Glad you asked. You don’t have to worry about getting spammed because as you’ve possibly read here before, posting your email anywhere online makes it susceptible to email harvesters leaving you exposed to spam. Additionally, the advertiser and you both know PayPerPost is a trusted service. And to uphold that reputation they assure that both you and the advertiser are happy when money changes hands.

Brown Thoughts tagged me for another blog of mine. But I thought I’d carry that tag over to this one as well to keep things interesting. It’s about digging out some of my old posts that seem to be unpopular. I had been thinking of doing a retro roundup of sorts so I thought this might be a good way to move in that direction.

Bad Web Parenting in 4 Easy Steps was a bit of an experiment. Rather than pointing out how to be a good parent when it comes to supervising your kid’s online activities, I turned it around and went for how to be a bad parent thinking maybe it would open some eyes.

One comment came through on it. Perhaps it hit too close to home on some?

Another one was MySpace: A Virtual Buffet for Sex Offenders. I don’t know. I suppose all blogger’s hope they make a positive impact with their readers on some level. And just because no one responded to your posts (save the one that did on this one), doesn’t necessarily mean that you didn’t reach them. But this post about MySpace kind of went on the shelf, so to speak. I still fear that many parents just don’t understand what MySpace and its ilk are all about. Or perhaps they are too trusting of their child to think they would never do anything “like that.”

Now, to pass this tag on. I choose Table4Five, Inspirational Awareness, and Rosevibe.
